Laptop screen cleaning can be important in terms of getting the desired efficiency of our laptop. But how can we clean our laptop screen? You may have a small or large screen laptop or a modern display that has a lot of details and rich colors depend on their value of resolution, but sometimes they are a bit dirty. Whether you leave it open for too long, get dusty, or the particles directly transfer from your keyboard to your screen, you can learn how to clean your laptop monitor without damaging it.

One of the best things about modern laptop screens is that they are much more durable than the old ones. Some are designed to be capable of coping with pressure, as they are touch screen laptops. However, fingertips can leave marks, so it is extremely important to clean them regularly.

Microfiber cloth for dust

Eyeglass wearers and camera owners know this little tool very well – after all, it’s probably clear how you clean a camera lens and your glasses. Microfiber cloths that are designed to remove dust and particles without producing fluff or scratching sensitive surfaces are the best tool for cleaning a laptop screen.

You can use other fabric-based materials, but they are more likely to leave particles on the screen. However, do not even consider using a paper towel or handkerchief. They may look soft when wiping your nose, but they are a bit rough for scratch-apt surfaces.

Step 1: Take a microfiber cloth. There are many types of clothes on the market, but these are specifically designed to clean glasses or lenses.

Step 2: Turn off your laptop. This is not relevant to safety, but a blank screen can help you see the dust you need to remove.

Step 3: Gently wipe the screen in one direction. Do not scrub or wipe in a circle, as this may damage the screen or carry dust particles around it.

Step 4: Continue wiping the screen until there is no dust.

Damp sponge for dirty screen

Sometimes there will be more than dust on your screen. In this case, you can use a damp sponge to clean your screen to prevent your microfiber cloth from getting dirty.

For this method, you will need a brand new dishwashing sponge and distilled or deionized water. Alternatively, use filtered water. If possible, avoid standard tap water, as minerals may leave traces on the screen.

Step 1: Turn off your laptop and unplug it. If possible, remove the battery.

Step 2: Moisten the sponge with distilled water and shake it so that no drops are left on it.

Step 3: Gently wipe the dirty area of your screen with the sponge. Watch the drops and clean them immediately, if any.

Step 4: After cleaning the screen, allow it to dry completely before closing the cover and/or using your machine.

Cleaning solutions for oils and stickies

If the fabric method doesn’t clean it and the damp sponge hasn’t worked out, it’s time to use a cleaning solution. Fortunately, you can get a screen cleaning spray with a microfiber cloth in many places. However, if you choose to create your own product, you can get an equal amount of distilled water and white vinegar (these are also great for general cleaning), or the same proportion of distilled water and high-density isopropyl alcohol.

However, note that you should avoid all types of glass cleaning fluids. Avoid spraying anything directly on your monitor.

Step 1: Turn off your notebook and unplug it from the power source. If you can, remove the battery only for safety.

Step 2: Spray or apply the cleaning solution onto a microfiber cloth. Make sure that the cloth is moist, not wet.

Step 3: Gently rub the oily area with the cloth. To avoid streaks, rub with small circles and avoid heavy pressure that could damage the screen.

Step 4: Repeat if necessary, by taking care not to drip any liquid onto your notebook screen or keyboard.

Step 5: When you are finished, allow the screen to dry completely before closing the cover or turning on your notebook.
